Why is my Interrail pass not working? ›

Why can't I connect my trip to a Pass? You might have already connected this trip to another Pass. Each Pass on your device needs its own trip. If your trip does not appear in the list of trips you can connect to your Pass, you'll need to choose another trip or create a new one.

With Interrail, you have the freedom and flexibility to hop on and off most trains as you please, as long as your Pass is valid. If you miss a train, it's no problem – just jump on the next one.

Can I avoid seat reservations? We're all about flexibility – most trains covered by your Interrail Pass don't require seat reservations, so if you're willing to take a slower route you can often avoid the extra cost. National trains will take you to all corners of Europe, and you can just hop on and off as you please.

1) How long should you go interrailing for? If you are interrailing just one or two countries, two weeks interrailing Europe is a good amount of time. If you would like to explore three or more countries in Europe, budget a trip that is at least 3-4 weeks long.

Americans can travel with Interrail if they reside in Europe for more than six months. This must be proven with official documents. Otherwise, a Eurail Pass must be purchased, which is today almost the same as the Interrail Pass. Buy Interrail ticket!

An Interrail Pass can be used by European citizens. Non-European citizens can use a Eurail Pass instead, available from Eurail.com for the same price as an Interrail Pass. If you're not a European citizen, but a resident of Europe, you can also use an Interrail Pass.

Passholder places are limited by a quota which can sell out even if the train isn't full - so book sooner rather than later! You can make Thalys passholder reservations online at either b-europe.com as explained here or using the official Eurail/Interrail reservations service.

If you cannot start your trip before you turn 28, you have to purchase an Adult Pass. Children must be 11 or younger on the date you choose to start your trip to travel for free with an Interrail Child Pass!

You can use your Interrail Global Pass to make 1 inbound and 1 outbound journey within your own country. Read more about travel in your own country. Outside of your own country, you may take as many journeys as you wish.

Reservations are compulsory for all night trains (with or without a Pass), and they guarantee you a seat or bed on the train. Depending on the train, you can make reservations online, by phone, or sometimes at the train station. Night train reservations are limited and often sell out quickly.

How many people apply for free Interrail? ›

To find trains that don't require reservations you can use our Rail Planner app on a mobile device. Make sure to tick the 'No reservation needed' box when searching for trains. In some cases reservations can't be avoided, simply because there are no other options available.

Couchettes are a standard type of sleeping accommodation. They offer a place to lie down with a pillow, a blanket and a sheet. There are usually compartments with couchettes for 4 or 6 people. Washrooms and toilets are located at the end of each car.

Interrail vs Eurail – what is the difference? There is no need to be confused, as both are mainly the same thing! If you are from Europe (citizen or you have residency there), you should apply for an Interrail pass. Your pass will also be cheaper because, as a citizen, you pay taxes in Europe.

The Additional Extras

Then the following additional facilities offered by some high-speed trains could be just what you need. A 1^st class Interrail Pass is definitely a worthwhile option if you are a lover of luxury or just want more comfort for a little bit extra.

Eurail and InterRail are both rail passes, and while they are similar there is one critical difference - who can buy them. Eurail Passes are only for non-European citizens or residents. InterRail Passes are only for European citizens or residents.

The Interrail Pass is a train ticket that allows you to travel on almost all trains in Europe. With it, you get access to 40 railway and ferry companies in 33 countries. Most trains can be boarded by simply showing staff your Interrail Pass on your phone.

Does Interrail make trains free? ›

Regional trains are a great way to get around Europe – and more often than not, they're free with your Interrail pass.

If you're planning on multiple trips between countries across a longer period, then the interrailing pass will save you money. If you're not flexible with travel dates and only have one or two journeys, you might want to consider buying individual train tickets.

Night trains

When travelling on a night train that leaves on one day and arrives the next, you only have to spend 1 travel day: the day of departure (however, you cannot use your Interrail Pass to take a night train on your last travel day as the validity period will expire at 23.59).

If you're already travelling and want to add more travel days to your trip, you can order an additional Pass to continue your journey.

An Interrail pass is personal. It is linked to a name and a passport/ID card number. It cannot be transferred to somebody else or used by somebody else.

We'll send you a notification 24 hours before your 3 days are up so you can find an internet connection. If you are on a train, there may be on-board Wi-Fi that you can use. The app does not update in the background, so you'll need to open the app when you find a connection so we can check your Pass.

To make reservations together with your friends or family, you will need to have already bought Interrail Passes for each of you. Then you can proceed by logging into your Interrail.eu account. If you haven't already done so, you will first need to create a trip in your account.

Does Interrail include the tube? ›

Interrail is only valid in trains (the train operating companies listed here). In London, this includes London Overground, Southeastern, Tfl Rail (Crossrail) and Thameslink. It does however not include the tube, tram or bus lines.

The Pass even includes certain buses and ferries to make sure everything is within reach. Some popular trains like the Eurostar, Thalys, TGV, and AVE are included in the Interrail Pass, but require that you purchase a seat reservation.

Making a reservation

Seats can get reserved quickly for busy times, such as weekends and holidays, so try to book ahead if you can. Seat reservations can be made online, at stations, over the phone, or at Rail Appointed Travel Agents. They are normally free of charge if made at the same time you buy your ticket.

The allocation of seats that can be reserved is fully booked or you booked your ticket close to the departure time and the seat reservations have already closed. Not to worry, a portion of seats are always left unreserved, you can sit in any vacant unreserved seat.

Three weeks is the perfect length of time for a first-time Interrailing adventure. Not only will you have plenty of time to travel between different countries and cities, but also to really experience the best bits of each place you visit.

Interrailing in Europe can cost as little as £20 to £200 per person per day. We spent 6 weeks travelling around Europe via train and spent £66.49 each per day, visiting countries such as Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland and Italy.

The best months for Interrailing would be the spring and autumn months when the trains aren't overcrowded, and the major attractions aren't inundated with other tourists. It's also not as hot at these times. The summer months can be expensive, crowded, and the trains can be stifling.

For Passes valid for 1, 2 or 3 months continuously, your Pass is valid for 1, 2 or 3 months after your start date. You can use your Pass to travel every day within that period. So if your start date is 4 July and you have a 3 months Pass, your Pass is valid for 3 months from 4 July – so up to and including 3 October.

How do I manually add journey to Interrail pass? ›

Select the train you want to take and click on 'Add journey' in the top right corner to add it to your trip. If you can't find a journey in the Rail Planner app, you can add it to your trip manually. Just enter the details, and you're good to go.

You need to activate your Pass within 11 months of the day you bought it. You can activate and start using your Pass any time before this date. If you're not sure when you bought your Pass, you can check your order confirmation email.

There are many journeys which are shown as 'not in pass network' where actually the entire journey can be completed using an Interrail pass. The underlying problem is that trains of some operators are wrongly tagged as not eligible for use with an Interrail or Eurail pass.

Night trains

A Railpass like Eurail or Interrail never can be sold out :) How ever sometrains need a reservation and these reservations can be sold out :/ Because of that if you have a fixed shedule i recommend to reserve certain trains like Eurostar,TGV France - Spain, TGV France - Italy as soon you can.

The rule means that you only need to use 1 travel day when travelling on trains that depart after 7 p.m. (19:00) and arrive at their final stop after 4 a.m. (04:00). Travel with an Interrail Pass can only begin from 00:01 on the first day that your pass is valid.
