After nearly five decades serving San Diego, 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant will shutter after today's service, although ownership says it's only temporary.

The 94th Area Squadron is owned by Specialty Restarants corporation.

Specialty Restaurants Corporation would go on to encompass over 100 restaurants across the country, including Pieces of Eight, Ports O' Call, Castaway, Crawdaddy's and Baby Does Matchless Mine. There were also aviation-themed restaurants.

Located in a 1917 French farmhouse, the restaurant was first opened by California-based Specialty Restaurants in 1980 and was known for its aviation theme with an interior full of military memorabilia and views of planes taking off at nearby John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

The owners of the aviation-themed restaurant in Columbus announced that they are officially closing its doors on June 18 after coming up on the end of their lease. A message was posted to the restaurant's website saying that the owners have decided to explore other opportunities.

After 49 years of serving the San Fernando Valley with American cuisine and lessons in aviation history, the 94th Aero Squadron has permanently shuttered its doors.
